Come Hungry to the Brecks for wellness
Walks, wildlife and forest wilderness
The most wild and unspoilt area of Suffolk and Norfolk is the Brecks, a unique environment that was a barren wilderness just 200 years ago. Today it is a landscape of rugged heath, chalk streams and the largest low-lying pine forest in the British Isles.
It is the perfect destination for wellness, for relaxation and a quieter pace of life. Come as you are – leave renewed.
Come Hungry for immersive and regenerative experiences in 47,000-acre Thetford Forest. Explore waymarked trails with a walk, a run or on two wheels through woodland where peace and quiet offers the chance to see deer, wild horses, hares and rabbits, and abundant birdlife such as gamebirds and rare breeding birds such as nightjars, goshawks and woodlarks.
Gallery: A flavour of the Brecks
Thetford Forest, spanning the borders of Suffolk and Norfolk, was created after the First World War and transformed the Brecks landscape, replacing sandy ridges and gorse with a managed environment of pines and heathland.
For adventure in Thetford Forest, head along to Go Ape or Explore 4x4.
Come Hungry to discover Neolithic flint mines, one of which you can go down, prehistoric Pingos, striking Deal Rows and chalk streams for wild swims.
With no light pollution, stay for star-illuminated night skies.
Leading into the Brecks visit Newmarket for its National Horse Racing Museum or Bury St Edmunds which has the last Regency theatre in the country, now run by the National Trust.
