Gainsborough + silk

Sudbury

Sudbury is a waterside market town on the River Stour in Suffolk, England, 20 miles west of Ipswich and with a branch line from Marks Tey station on the Inter City London-Norwich line. There are delightful walks around the water meadows.

Sudbury is home to Gainsborough’s House, birthplace of the renowned English landscape and portrait painter Thomas Gainsborough. As well as being a museum it is also a major regional gallery and exhibition space.

Within the Wool Towns area of Suffolk, Sudbury also has a tradition of silk weaving that continues to this day.
