About NWT Weeting Heath National Nature Reserve
NWT Weeting Heath is home to lots of interesting plant and wildlife species, including the elusive stone curlew.
NWT Weeting Heath is the best site in the country to watch the rare and unusual stone curlew and is home to an array of other charismatic birds such as crossbills and little owls.
The reserve is also one of the finest remaining Breckland grass heaths; the 2011 Breckland Biodiversity Audit led by the University of East Anglia (extending over the whole of the Brecks) showed that more than 28% of all the UK’s rare species occurred in an area covering less than 1% of the UK!
Some areas of the reserve are ‘Open Access’ for dogs, but only at certain times of the year. Please observe signage on site.
