_Beaches in the East of England
The coastline of the East of England is defined by space, light and long horizons. From wide sandy expanses and shifting dunes to shingle shores edged with fishing boats and piers, this is a coast that feels open and unhurried.
Along the Royal Norfolk Coast, broad beaches stretch west from Wells-next-the-Sea towards Hunstanton, backed by saltmarsh, pine woods and big skies. To the east, the Norfolk Coast curves past traditional seaside towns, low cliffs and long sandy bays. Further south, the Suffolk Coast offers a different rhythm: heathland meeting shingle, painted beach huts, working fishing communities and quiet, rural stretches shaped by tide and weather.
Many beaches here change dramatically with the tide. At low water, sandbanks and rippled flats are revealed. At high tide, the sea reaches the dunes and seawalls. Some beaches are lively and close to town centres, others sit at the end of narrow lanes with only the sound of wind and waves.
Whether you are looking for a traditional seaside day out, a coastal walk along open sands, wildlife watching in the dunes, or simply space to pause beside the water, you will find detailed information on access, parking and location to help you plan your visit.
