Racehorses + history

Newmarket

Newmarket is set in rolling countryside in Suffolk, England, on the A14 between Bury St Edmunds and Cambridge, and is famous for being the world headquarters of flat horse racing and a centre for the breeding and training of thoroughbred horses. It has two iconic racecourses, Rowley Mile Course and the July Course.

Charles II established the town’s reputation when he created a royal palace here which is today part of the National Horse Racing Museum.

A highlight of a visit to Newmarket is a tour of the early morning Gallops.
