Eye
Eye is an unspoilt market town by the River Dove in Suffolk, England, 20 miles from Ipswich and 25 miles from Norwich.
The name Eye comes from an old English word for ‘island’ and it’s thought the first settlement here was surrounded by water.
Eye was an important town in Anglo-Saxon times and the Normans made it a military and administrative headquarters, building a motte and bailey castle, but little is left. Eye’s impressive Grade I listed Church of St Peter and St Paul is deemed as one of the finest in Suffolk, a legacy of wool wealth.
Nearby is the excellent Red Feather Club 905th Bomb Group Museum.
