Cley-next-the-Sea
Cley-next-the-Sea is a charming village on the coast of Norfolk, England, 35 miles east of King’s Lynn and 27 miles north west of Norwich.
Within the Norfolk Coast National Landscape on the River Glaven, Blakeney is renowned for being one of the best birdwatching spots in the UK. It stands at the beginning of the Blakeney Point sand and shingle spit and its major landmark is the iconic windmill.
The village’s name comes from the Anglo-Saxon name Claeg, meaning clay, so it’s likely the pronunciation of Cley is that, but many refer to it as Cly. As for ‘next-the-sea’, Cley hasn’t been that since the 17th century because of land reclamation.
