Caister
Caister-on-Sea is a large seaside village in Norfolk, England, just north of Great Yarmouth and 18 miles east of Norwich.
Caister, with a long sandy beach, can trace its routes back to Roman times when it hosted a fort on the northern end of a wide estuary that defended the waterway up to Venta Icenorum Roman town near Norwich. It’s now on the site of a 15th century castle built for Sir John Fastolf, used as the character Sir John Falstaff by Shakespeare.
Caister was home to the first holiday camp in the UK, set up by Fletcher Dodd in 1906.
