About Introduction to Love and Landscape with Curator Amy Lim – Talk
Organised in partnership with the Stanley Spencer Gallery, this is the most ambitious exhibition in a decade dedicated to Sir Stanley Spencer, one of the greatest painters of twentieth-century Britain.Although Spencer’s life and career are largely synonymous with his native village of Cookham in Berkshire, he also spent a great deal of time in Suffolk, most notably Southwold and Wangford, where he married his first wife, the artist Hilda Carline, who had served as a Land Girl in Wangford during the First World War. The exhibition weaves the story of their relationship and art through the Suffolk landscape that Spencer came to associate with their love. Amy will introduce the exhibition’s themes and take an in-depth look at some of the paintings on display.Dr Lim will introduce the exhibition’s themes and explore key paintings on display. Following the lecture, guests will enjoy exclusive after-hours access to the exhibition.
