About Watatunga Safari Stays
Watatunga Wildlife Reserve offers Safari Stays in stunning self-catering accommodation. The reserve boasts three lodges, each with unique features.
It feels a million miles away from everyday life. The Stable Cottage is the most luxurious of the lodges and sleeps eight. Major's Lodge has access to a private bird-hide, is wheelchair accessible and also sleeps eight. The Gate Lodge, the newest option, sleeps four and overlooks the breeding paddocks of Watatunga. Set in the expansive walled garden of Watlington estate, the Stable Cottage is our most spacious and secluded property with a tennis court, wood-fired hot tub overlooking the animals and a four-poster master suite - plus it's an easy walk to our award winning local pub! Wonderfully secluded and situated about a mile from the main reserve with some of Watatunga's most endangered animals on private view just across the garden wall. The Stable Cottage is a stunning location for a peaceful holiday at any time of year. There's an open fire and AGA in winter months and in summer the BBQ, laden fruit trees and sun-soaked terrace make it feel a million miles away from everyday life. Major's Lodge is a delightful single-storey wooden safari lodge, overlooking the grassy expanses and lakes of Watatunga Wildlife Reserve. This property is special because it comes with access to our state-of-the-art bird-hide overlooking the main lake, and gives stunning vistas over grazing herds of exotic deer and antelope species even from the comfort of your living room. With four bedrooms all on one storey, Major's Lodge is the only wheelchair accessible property on site with a wet room, as well as two additional bathrooms. With a cosy open-fire in the sitting room, a sunny conservatory and dining room, there are plenty of spaces to relax and celebrate your time away. The newest in Watatunga's collection of safari stays is the Gate Lodge, a charming gabled cottage which makes the ideal peaceful retreat for wildlife enthusiasts. A lovingly restored part of the estate that sleeps four, it overlooks some of Watatunga's most endangered animals which can be seen grazing in an off-show paddock, studded with ancient oaks just beyond the garden fence. With a fully equipped kitchen, open-fire in the living room and two cosy rooms, the Gate Lodge is within an easy walk of both our award-winning local pub and Watlington train station. All stays booked directly through Watatunga include a private tour and use of the buggies throughout your stay. Make your experience of the reserve unique and undisturbed and discover the magic of Watatunga's wildlife at your leisure. WATATUNGA SAFARI STAYS INCLUDE THE USE OF A SELF-DRIVE ELECTRIC BUGGY TO USE IN THE RESERVE THROUGHOUT YOUR VISIT
