About SWT Lackford Lakes

Lackford Lakes is a 400-acre nature reserve owned and managed by Suffolk Wildlife Trust. Created from disused sand and gravel pits in the River Lark valley, this wild patchwork of lakes, reedbeds, woodland, and unique Breckland meadows is now designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), rich in wildlife.Enjoy the best of Suffolk's wildlife all year round; from spectacular numbers of dragonflies and butterflies in the summer, to mesmerising murmurations in autumn and vast flocks of overwintering birds.Visit Lackford Lakes nature reserve for a day of relaxed walking, birdwatching, and reconnecting with nature. Regular family events and guided walks offer the chance to learn more about the reserve's wildlife from the wardens and volunteers who care for this special landscape.Afterwards, pop into the visitor centre for a cuppa, a light lunch, or a slice of fresh cake; with all proceeds support Suffolk Wildlife Trust, the county's local charity for nature.
