American Library, Memorial to the 2nd Air Division, 8th Air Force, United States Army Air Forces

A living memorial dedicated to the 2nd Air Division of the 8th US Army Air Forces who were based in the East of England during WW2.

The American Library is a living memorial recognizing the thousands of Americans stationed in East Anglia during World War Two. The library has an exhibition about the history of the 2nd Air Division and is home to the Roll of Honor, which commemorates those who lost their lives in service. The veterans began planning for this memorial before World War Two had ended. The library first opened in 1962.

You can find books on all aspects of American life, history and culture as well as the best in classic and contemporary fiction. US magazines are available to borrow and there is an e-book library. Books and magazines can be borrowed with a Norfolk Library and Information Service card.

The 2nd Air Division Digital archive contains over 30,000 original photographs, letters, memoirs and other documents-and is still growing! This archive is available online at https://digitalarchive.2ndair.org.uk/.

The American Library is based inside the Norfolk and Norwich Millennium Library in The Forum in central Norwich, England. The library is managed by the Norfolk County Council Library and Information Service and funded by the Memorial Trust of the 2nd Air Division USAAF, an independent registered UK charity.

The library is free to visit and accessible to all visitors.
